Eric King serves as Executive Director of the Kentucky Energy Planning and Inventory Commission (EPIC). Unanimously confirmed by the Kentucky Senate in April 2026, King leads EPIC’s work on issues affecting energy reliability, affordability, economic development, and the Commonwealth’s growing demand for electricity.

Before joining EPIC, King spent more than a decade at the University of Kentucky, where he served as Assistant Vice President for Research and Executive Director of Federal Relations. He previously served as a senior energy advisor to then-U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and worked for Kentucky Electric Cooperatives.

A native Kentuckian and alumnus of Murray State University, King works closely with utilities, policymakers, industry leaders, local officials, and communities to help Kentucky remain competitive while protecting residents and businesses from unnecessary costs.

In 2026, King was appointed to the National Petroleum Council, a federal advisory committee to the U.S. Secretary of Energy. He is currently the only Kentuckian serving on the council.
